Presented By: Dent Education

What to Expect:

When people talk about Baltimore City Public Schools, we often hear about the problems. In this workshop, high schoolers, teachers, and community members will come together to view problems in BCPSS as opportunities to make our schools better.

As a workshop participant, you will use the design thinking process, prototype ways to address problems experienced by Baltimore City students and teachers, and learn design thinking tools that can be applied to a classroom, organization, business, or projects.

In this design thinking sprint you will form teams with other high schoolers, teachers, and community members. As a team, you will conduct empathy interviews with BCPSS teachers and/or high schoolers. Based on what you hear in the empathy interviews, your team will define the users’ “Point of View” and ask “How Might We” questions that address the user’s needs within City Schools. You will then brainstorm dozens of potential solutions and rapidly build prototypes for your favorite ideas. Finally, you will complete one loop of the design thinking process by hearing feedback on your prototype from the person you initially interviewed.

In learning the design thinking process, we hope more high schoolers, teachers, and community members will be inspired to create empathy-driven, innovative solutions to problems within Baltimore City Public Schools!
